The early versions of Windsor were free but not much use to anyone so they were often just left in the box. It was the release of Windsor 3 with its improved look and feel which really caught on.

Shortly after, Windsor 3.1 gave us the executables Diana and Fergie although this role has been nominal since Henry VIII. After a great deal of Object Linking, not to mention Embedding, Windsor 3.11 provided peer to peer links so that users who were separated could keep in touch.

There were some legal wrangles over ownership and the Windsor 3.x product now looks rather dated. Hopes are pinned on the next major upgrade, but when will Windsor 95 with its new face appear? Maybe not until 96 or 97. Delay increases the possibility of a republic and our first Terminate but (perhaps) Stay Resident monarch.
